E-Learning solutions have always changed and progressed alongside new technologies. The first computer based learning programs are a far cry from today's e-learning solutions.

Trends and buzz words in online training come and go, some have stayed. "Gamification", "learning nuggets", "mobile learning", "social learning", ... are all part of well rounded training design.

New Technologies in E-Learning 

While standard e-learning course formats are still widely used in corporate training and also recommended by us, there have also been technological changes in the past years which have become normal standards. For example, responsive e-learning formats haven't been "normal" ten years ago but they are now: online courses that can be used on any device. "Mobile" learning had therefore become almost obsolete as a term, though it always must be considered nowadays, which devices will be used by your learners. Different content can also be displayed on different devices, or in different quality. 

Other changes have seen more online social learning solutions, individual learning journeys, more usage of interactive video, and shorter modules in general.

A lasting trend is using e-learning more as an OFFER of training content (pull), as opposed to mandatory push trainings. Training material is available any time when needed, anywhere and in context.

Artificial intelligence, 3D / virtual realities and simulations aren't widely used standards though. Simulations have been used for a long time in high end trainings, such as in aviation, for pilots, etc. For simpler job activities though, the advantages are very limited and therefore, the cost and time for development usually aren't justified. Though there are more solutions now available for rapid development of 3D environments. The problem is, that those bring other disadvantages, such as large files, long loading times, and cost for equipment. AI also isn't offering much at this point in time for "normal" e-learning projects. A simple robot wouldn't offer much more than an avatar based on a database. Other widely used AI hasn't really much of a use case in corporate training, such as analysing large data quantities, drawing connections, or by machine learning. 

Micro personalization is a vialable and highly effective solution but again requires resources for the development. 

Location based training can be very efficient and not hard to develop if it makes sense for your training needs. Beacons can be used indoors for example and push information based on location. 

Interactive Audio finally isn't often heard of, but we would LOVE to develop interactive audio solutions for you as we think that this is a great option for efficient training of your staff anywhere and any time - whilst driving a car for example, while sitting in a train, while doing automatic tasks, during waiting times, etc.

As wanting to deploy cool new technology for the sake of it isn't necessarily the best training solution!
